Better than expected

We were at the Oasis Tulum for 7 days/night June 7-14, 2012. We were concerned prior to departure with some of the online reviews of the resort and even thought of changing hotels. We stuck with the plan and are very happy we did. Every day we asked ourselves how anyone could not enjoy themselves at this hotel. Is it a budget property, yes. Are the rooms like every other hotel in Mexico and clean, yes. Is the staff nice, yes. Is the food good, yes. There are 5 restaurants but they alternate each evening so only 2 open for dinner, and only the buffet for breakfast and lunch. If you want a “cheap Caribbean” get away, with a beautiful beach, don’t hesitate to book the Oasis Tulum.

What a Joy!

To start our trip off we ended up getting stuck in Philly as we missed our connector flight. US Airways was not the most pleasant to deal with but reclaimed a lot in the end. Cheapcaribbean ended up saving us in the end and got us our one night and one day back without moving our room and at no cost. The Resort was spectacular and simple. The beach and ocean were beautiful. The pools were clean and warm. Our room was amazing facing the ocean. The service was great, the employees are pleasant and polite. I would go back again in an instant. Thank You Oasis Tulum and Cheapcaribbean!

Great beach, bad hotel

The Oasis Tulum sits on a beautiful stretch of beach, but the hotel leaves much to be desired. The rooms provide minimal comfort, scratchy sheets and towels, no comfortable chairs, and only 2 pillows for sleeping. There is only about 3 English speaking channels on the TV to choose from (which we had to resort to watching TV because it rained a lot, and the hotel has NOTHING TO DO!). We also had our room broken into while we stayed there, and the hotel responded very poorly. They not only took no responsibility for the incident, their response to our room being vandalized was practically indifferent. The bar selection might have been good, but there was nothing around to tell you what they had or what they could make, a beverage list or menu would have been helpful. The food was good, and the service was good at the restaurants, but after being there for 7 days, the choices on the menus were minimal and repetitive. There is also a communication barrier. We were in Mexico, I get it, but much of the staff at the hotel speaks no English. There was no entertainment provided at the hotel, no shows, not much in the way of group activities, which makes for a boring stay when it is raining. And last, but not least, there is no shopping on site, only a small convienced/souvenier shop that is overpriced...and if you want bottled water, you have to buy it everyday because the hotel only provides 1 bottle of water per day in the room, even with 2 occupants! It got expensive to drink water! The closest shopping was in Tulum, which is 15 minutes away, that was a $50 cab ride, or Playa del Carmen, which was 35 minutes away.

Great value

We went to Oasis Tulum for our honeymoon. We got an amazing deal on the flight/resort package and were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to see how nice the resort was. Nothing felt over-the-top luxurious; if you want that you should pay a lot more and go to one of the luxury resorts. But it was all very nice and we felt plenty pampered. The staff was very helpful whenever we had questions. Our room was clean and everything worked properly. The pools were a bit cold, and even the "hot tubs" were really just "slightly warm tubs." But the beach was amazing - white sand, plenty of chairs and umbrellas, decent snorkeling. There were sea urchins in the bay, so be sure to bring water shoes (or just wear tennis shoes in the water). The food was just OK. We are vegetarians and had relatively slim pickings at the buffet and restaurants. I have other dietary restrictions, so I just brought some of my own favorite treats and staples and was fine. Even if you're not a vegetarian, don't come here if you're a foodie and want exceptional dining. But if you're looking for a quiet beach, nice service and a relaxing all-inclusive, I would definitely recommend Oasis Tulum.
