First time on pacific side
This was our first time vacationing on the pacific side. We usually vacation on the Caribbean side and thought we would try Los Cabo this year. This resort was overall very good. Upon check in the staff was very friendly and helpful. The only complaint was the staff tries to multitask instead of checking you in completely before helping other guests and your left standing waiting until eventually they get back to you. This process took almost an hour. The rooms were very clean. The bed was very comfortable, The water pressure in the shower was excellent, and the a/c worked perfectly! The view from room 3312 was awesome and this was a partial ocean view room. The Beach is unusable for swimming due to the strong rip tide, but the pool was very nice. We were a little disappointed that there was only one bar open at a time. The 1 swim up bar is the only bar available throughout the day from 11am-6 or 7pm. it was inconvenient if you were not in the swimming area and the lobby bar didn't open until 5pm. The food was some of the best we've had out of 7 different vacation resorts. The service throughout the resort was very good and all of the staff was very friendly. The resort is centrally located between Jose Del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas so its about 25 minutes to either and the taxi fare is approximately $25 one way. Also just outside the resort there's a local bus stop on each side of the road for another option for just a couple dollars. We didn't discover this until we were already in the taxi. We would recommend this resort to others. After all there are pros and cons to them all and we had a good experience here.

Thank you Melia!
I've been with my boyfriend for 3 years now and I finally took him on our first vacation (not to mention his first time out the United States). It was his birthday trip! And I must say what a birthday it was! Let me start this by saying the service was AMAZING! I planned on spending absolutely no money out there being that the resort is all-inclusive but these employees sure know how to make you feel at home!
The first day we arrived our room was not ready, so we were upgraded to a Master Suite which of course we had no complaints. Amazing room with lovely jacuzzi on balcony that we took full advantage of. The hotel's resort was beautiful and after paying for wifi for one day with many complications we were granted access to the internet for our whole stay. Once again lovely.
My boyfriend and I especially loved the Japanese restaurant and I must give a big big THANK YOU to Jose Luis that works that restaurant, during the day he's by the pool bar, at night he does Japanese, he was definitely our favorite, after telling him it was my boyfriends birthday he surprised us with a cake and even sang happy birthday.
I could go on and on about how much we loved the resort but it was absolutely amazing, I would definitely recommend to anyone.
Last but not least thank you Cheapcarribean, booking with you guys has been a pleasure. From the split payment to the airport transportation and also all of the excursions thanks to Mauricio (another one of our favorites) who stayed in touch with us and made sure we were having a great time. And went above and beyond to make sure we were situated.
I LOVED IT!
So yes choose Melia, despite few bad reviews listen to this good one ;)
The only air conditioned areas in this hotel are the rooms, and one of the restaurants. The gym is older, and not air conditioned. (It may not even be there any more - they said they were going to remove it when I was there) The pool was less than refreshing; the water was warm, and very crowded. If you like kids, and teen agers this is the place for you. I found it difficult to get to any of the bars - the pool bar included - as there were so many kids about. The staff were very good and helpful, but only as good as what they had to offer. The beach is red flagged much of the time, and not that inviting. You're quite a way from Cabo San Lucas, so if it's night life you're after, then find a hotel closer to Cabo. Over all, I would not go back, but if you just want to get away with the kids, then this might just be the place for you.
The Melia Cabo Real has many positive things going for it; lovely pool, very nice staff and a swimmable beach.
However, the food is atrocious. There is very little variety, it has literally no taste and even the Mexican food (which we had to seek out high and low to get) was less than stellar. It got to the point where we resorted to eating chips from the hotel store.
They are nice and they try hard, but I would say this resort is 3 stars at best and would really classify it at 2.5 stars. Also, there was constant construction going on next door and it was extremely annoying.
I will not be back.

With an all-inclusive package are all meals and beverages (Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic) at the hotel included?11 answers
2 years, 31 months ago
As per our web site, the all-inclusive package does include alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, meals and snacks. The inclusions are shown below.
All Inclusive Features:
* Daily meals and snacks at four restaurants
* Two weekly theme dinner nights
* All national and selected premium drinks at restaurants and three bars
* Room service food and drink (limited hours)
* Guestroom mini bar beverages
* Day-long activity program
* Snorkeling equipment
* Taxes and gratuities
Yes, all meals and beverages are included. However, there are additional wines (not the house wine) that is available for purchase, and room service is an additional fee.
Everything including alcoholic drinks are included which is really nice. The only thing that isn't included is wine you would offer off of their wine list. The wine they serve that's included is pretty terrible, so if you're into wine you may consider ordering off the list, but even so their wine selections are not very good. I stuck to cocktails and beers mostly.
Yes they are. But if you have diet restrictions such as no fish or pork the options are limited. The alcoholic drinks were plentiful but the quality was iffy at times.
yes they are all included
YES ALL MEALS AND BEVERAGES INCLUDED! YUM!
Yes all food and drinks included. Food was excellent and drinks are not watered down and include top shelf liquor, shots included.
Yes, all drinks, alcohol and non alcohol are included at all meals, and at the pools and in the lobby and even in the restaurants. The only thing that I can recall not included was wine at Terraza restaurant. Other than that, anything and everything you wish to drink including sake in the Japanese restaurant is included!
yes!! several restaurants (with excellent food) are avail as well as a buffet for breakfast... there was always food available (somewhere) until about midnight
Yes. That is all included.
is the construction done yet or when will it be done8 answers
2 years, 30 months ago
Yes, the resort recently underwent a $1.3 million renovation involving the rooms, restaurants and bars.
We saw no construction on the hotel grounds. There was construction at a building to the right - but no noise or other disturbance from it
It's done. There was no construction during our Christmas vacation there.
No construction while I was there.
The construction near the golf course is still on going. We requested a pool side view to avoid the construction view. Worked out great. We never saw the construction.
there was no construction going on at the hotel itself... there was some building going on - on the other side of the green (across the golf course)... it was not distracting
??? It must be done, as no construction was going on.
I didn't see any construction
Hoe close is down town??7 answers

The Melia Cabo Real is roughly 45 minutes from San Juan.
The Melia Cabo Real is 5 minutes from San Jose del Cabo and 20 minutes from Cabo San Lucas.
25 minutes to San Lucas and 15 minutes to San Jose.
About 25 minutes away. They have a public bus you can catch for about $1.50 each way but I heard you have to pay in pesos. Or do a cab. It cost 9 of us to go down to the harbor/downtown $45 bucks. We had elderly people so we had to go with a cab as they couldn't walk to the bus stop. The cab was at the hotel came in a matter of a few minutes and worth it if you have elderly with you. The ride back from town or the harbor is cheaper as you can negotiate a cheaper rate once down there.
the hotel is not close to downtown but, san jose del cabo is close & actually a much more enjoyable town to visit...
20min cab ride or $25USD/$300pesos
About 20 minutes away.
Downtown is not close. It is a 30 min cab ride and possibly a 1 hr or more bus ride.
Is the resort kid friendly like for toddlers?8 answers
2 years, 25 months ago
The resort does offer supervised activities for children which are available for toddlers ages 4 months-4 years old and also for ages 5-12 years old daily from 10am-1pm and also 3pm-5pm.
Mostly adults, but plenty of kid room
yes, kid friendly. Includes kid pool
i did see plenty of couples with small children... they did have a shallow (kids type) pool as well as the regular pool
Yes! Saw tons of families there with small children.
Yes, toddlers are allowed everywhere except the jacuzzi. They had plenty of high chairs and the staff was always accommodating. The have a playground and free babysitting at an area close to the pool - from 10 until 5pm I believe. The woman who watches the children is excellent! I don't trust my child with anyone and she was great! Our only complaint was that the pool was too cold for my two year old to enjoy much longer than 10 minutes at a time. The ocean nearby was warmer.
Yes, they have some activities - (painting, play area, outdoor movies, etc.) There is a pool area for the little ones too.
Oh yes.....lots of kids. For adults who want more of a party atmosphere or romantic atmosphere go for an adults only resort.
Can you swim at the beach @ this resort?10 answers
2 years, 25 months ago
According to the resort's page, the beach's calm cove is safe for swimming.
Yes, At your own risk
No. there is no swimming due to strong rip tides.
Yes and its the only beach that you can swim at as the currents are very strong. We swam there every day, the water was about 85 degrees,
no- you can swim at your own risk-but, it is not recommended... the hotel is on the sea of cortez side and the currents are very strong
yes they have a swimmable beach but I think the tide is still too much. It makes me nervous.
does the Melia Cabo Real Hotel provide round trip shuttle to sister hotel ME Melia Cabo?4 answers

We are not aware of a complimentary shuttle between these 2 properties. Please check with the hotel directly for further information.
I didn't even know there was a sister hotel as the Melia Cabo Real had everything we needed and we never had to leave! The only time we left was to go sailing down at Lovers beach.
NO! It's 400 pesos/30-35 USD for cab from airport. Bus is unreliable. Just cab it or get a rental for like $10/day from the airport :)
We don't know this. We traveled by bus to Marina and shopping area in Cabo San Lucas for two dollars.
NO....unfortunately not. That was the one thing that will keep me from going there again. It can be a $30 - $40 cab ride each way to ME. We went to ME the more adult resort and it was cool but the pool is MUCH smaller than the Melia Cabo Real. And they don't honor anything like drinks or food if you stay at Melia Cabo Real which they should since they are sister resorts. You have to pay for everything out of pocket at ME.
How much is the wifi charge?10 answers
1 year, 21 months ago
Because this charge is subject to change, we do not have the amount that they charge for their wifi. You could try to contact the resort at 1-888-956-3542 to see if they are able to give you a price on the wifi. Thank you.
It's $14usd per hour or $18usd for 24 hours
$10 a day for 2 phones. Its work well in the hotel lobby, a little spotty in the rooms. We didn't even turn our phones on but my sister did for work.
the hotel did charge for wifi use but, they had a package for several days use & it was economic..
$18 (USD) for 1 day or $45 for 3 days.
$18/day! If you get one day or $12/day if you buy 5...and no where is there free wi-fi. Not even the lobby :(
Didn't use it. Son- in-law paid per day. A friend paid around $50 for the week.
It is expensive. You have to buy wifi to print your airline boarding passes. It cost me $4 for 15 minutes. The printer is in the lobby, so spent my 15 minutes running back & forth because the printer wasn't working.
If you sign up for Melia Rewards, you can get it for free. We went on the Melia website to sign up.
wifi is $10 per day.
How is the beach? Is it rocky? How far is the beach from the hotel?11 answers
How is the beach? Is it rocky? Can you swim?
How far is the beach from the hotel?
1 year, 19 months ago
The beach at this resort is INDEED swimmable! The resort is located right on the resort, making it walking distance from your room.
The beach is just a few minutes walk. The water was nice yes you could swim and no it was not rocky.
There are no rocks in the area designated for swimming. The beach has a small surrounding of rocks which make it a perfect lagoon for swimming and tossing a football around. Just stay in the area designated for the Melia Cabo Real, as there are swift currents outside this area. The water is about 85 degrees, its beautiful. Bring a mask and snorkel, there are fish right next to the lagoon. Best time to see fish is early morning as the winds pick up in the afternoon. We went swimming every day at around 5 pm and had a wonderful time.
the hotel is right on the beach.... you can walk on it but, swimming is not recommended due to strong currents....the sand is clean & beautiful....i did not see any vendors while we were there
The sand is grainy, so sandals are more comfortable in some areas. Beach is down some stairs, 30 seconds away from your hotel room. Yes you can swim, but the steep drop off from shallow to deep makes it difficult to get in.
The beach is aways from the hotel but not too far--the sand is a bit rocky. You can swim, but must be careful--it drops off significantly from the shore, and there are rip-tides. Water temp was good.
Rocky! And appx 150yards from hotel...lots of vendors.
Hugh beach area with courser sand. You get a work- out walking. Yes, you can swim. I'd guess about a hundred yards walking on the beach to the water. From pool area, you are close to the beach. Not that many rocks are there. They gave an area where horses are kept under palm trees if people want to pay a $140 to ride an hour or two.
There is a rocky area for the beach but I think it helps the waves calm down. Walking on the beach is not bad at all but the waves can be strong. You can just sit near the shoreline cause the wave will pull you in. But it feels a lot better than the pool.
It is a very short walk There is a stairwell leading down from the pool to the beach.Breathtaking views of it from the pool and restaurant. The sand is coarse but it becomes smooth as you get nearer the beach. It is one of the few beaches that you can swim in Los Cabos. We loved walking along the beach each evening..
The beach is a little rocky and do recommend wearing sandals to walk to it.
It is not that far walk. When you go down the steps and start walking it maybe a minute to 2 minute walk depending on how fast.
A small part of swimable and they let you know which part. When I was there the waves were really strong but plenty of people in the water.
Once you get closer to the water, the sand is softer and not pebbly.
what is the dress code for the restaurants at night?10 answers
1 year, 17 months ago
Most resorts do not allow shorts, jeans or sneakers be worn in the specialty restaurants and men are required to wear slacks and collared shirts. However, for further information regarding the dress attire in the specialty restaurants, we do suggest contacting the resort directly as they would be best to assist you. The email address found on the resort's website to contact them directly is email@example.com.
It is casual, but it is really whatever you want to make it to be. My girlfriend and I overdressed each time, it is all for fun. We saw people wearing board shorts and sandals with a T-shirt eating dinner at Terraza and Kujira (the two a la carte restaurants), and there were people with nice dresses and high heels.
shirt, short, skirt, or long pants, shoes - flip flops were okay
Casua (i.e. no bathing suits), but you can get 'dressed up' if you want to. You can wear shorts, flip flops, and tennis shoes. You have to wear a shirt though.
Casual. Whatever you'd wear to Applebees/Olive Garden
Pants for both women and men. Sweater and long sleeve shirt nice as it's cooler in the evening. Of course, casual dresses too.
There really isn't one since there is only a buffet and one restaurant. It's like anywhere else, shirts are required no beach wear. No jacket and ties are required.
Casual to dressy. Whatever you feel like.
Are the deluxe garden rooms near the pool?7 answers
1 year, 15 months ago
For details about exact locations of different room categories on property please contact the resort directly, their email address is: firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
Yes the deluxe room are close to the pool
We had deluxe garden rooms and had to walk quite a ways to get to the pool, but I saw other rooms closer. It was not a problem--it is quite a sprawling property, and a lot of walking is just part of the deal. You also have to walk aways over the sand to the water at the beach
Yes, within 50yards.
It is a very short distance away.
No rooms are actually near the pool but you can see the pool from a deluxe garden room.....its better the pool is at a distance because with all the kids you wouldn't want that noise.
The rooms are close to the pool area, you have to walk down a short path to get to it. You should be able to see if from your balcony.
Is there plenty of vegetarian options at the buffets and restaurants?3 answers
I am a vegetarian. I do eat dairy and eggs so I just don't eat meat. I have found in Mexico before that there were few options for me in eating.
1 year, 13 months ago
This resort has a wide variety of food options on their menu, they will be able to accommodate your vegetarian needs. For specific menu information please contact the resort directly as their menu changes on a weekly basis.
There is not much in the vegetarian arena unless you eat the items that are meant for burgers like the lettuce, tomatoes, onions etc...they do offer omelets for breakfast and I had a veggie omelet every morning and cactus juice. They do offer salad during dinner to. However we did not eat at the 1 restaurant they had opened.
But be careful...I think I got sick from eating the raw veggies because they rinse them off....
I just got back from Melia, There are many vegetarian options. The buffet by the pool has a salad bar, a variety of vegetable dishes, beans, rice, cheeses and fruit. The chips with fresh guacamole, salsa and verde sauce is so good!
There are also two restaurants, one offers pizza and pasta. The Japanese restaurant has rice and different kinds of sushi.
Is there an ATM machine?3 answers
1 year, 12 months ago
This resort does have an ATM machine on the property.
There is an ATM machine but it was broken when we were there and that was July 15-19 2014
There are two ATMS on site, one atm is under the main lobby by the gift shop for US currency, the other ATM is right outside of the hotel lobby on the other side of the resort guard gate for Pecos.
